Euro-6 Standard for commercial vehicles: Picking up initial experiences

The new exhaust emissions standard Euro 6 will come into effect for all newly registered commercial vehicles throughout Europe from 2014. This new law focuses particularly on soot particles and nitrogen oxides. However, vehicles will cost more and their fuel consumption will rise if incorrect driving methods are used; fleet managers are responding by putting the brakes on investment. Fuel consumption is key success factor in logistics

Fuel accounts for up to 45 per cent of the total life-cycle cost of a truck, and is thus overall the largest individual cost item. Curbing fuel consumption is therefore one of the key parameters for improved efficiency and economic success. Given this, fuel consumption and carbon emissions are important criteria for Europe's leading field test of truck endurance, bestof9.eu. In the course of three years, nine trucks will cover a distance of over 3.24 million kilometres. TÜV SÜD supports this test as a technical partner. Consumption and carbon emissions will also be top themes of TÜV SÜD's premiere at the IAA Commercial Vehicles, held in Hanover between 20 and 27 September.
