TÜV SÜD: EN 1090 will become binding on introduction of the Eurocodes

A new three-part standard for load-bearing steel and aluminium parts of works will come into effect throughout Europe in the shape of the EN 1090 standard. Even though the standard provides for a transition period up to mid-2014, the legal situation in Germany will change when the "Eurocodes" replace the national building code as the basis of structural analysis with effect from July 2012. TÜV SÜD recommends manufacturers to apply the standard as soon as possible to ensure legal compliance. A key requirement of the harmonized EN 1090-1 standard is the assessment and certification of factory production control.
