Implementing new directives and standards in practice

The Medical Devices Directive (MDD) is currently undergoing comprehensive revision by the European Commission.At MEDICA 2012 (Hall 10, Stand B05) TÜV SÜD will inform medical devices manufacturers of how the changes will affect the harmonized standards and how requirements can be implemented in practice.The MEDICA trade fair will take place in Duesseldorf between 14 and 17 November.

TÜV SÜD provides high-voltage training to Bosch employees worldwide

TÜV SÜD Akademie will provide training worldwide to all Bosch employees who work on or near high-voltage systems. Following a call for tender, Bosch decided in favour of TÜV SÜD Akademie. The training provided to the Bosch employees will be based on the strict German safety regulations (BGI 8686 and BGR A3). TÜV SÜD Akademie has also designed special seminars for members of staff involved in battery assembly. The first training courses in Germany and China are already under way, and further training courses will shortly be launched in various countries including the UK, USA, India and Japan.

TÜV SÜD stands for safety in industrial automation

Safety and reliability in industrial automation – at the SPS/IPC/Drives in Nuremberg from 27 to 29 November 2012, TÜV SÜD will showcase its range of services extending from Limited Product Certification of individual machines and components or Panel Shop certification to the protection of IT systems against cyber attacks, sabotage and espionage. TÜV SÜD: Safety in all areas of electromobility

TÜV SÜD will showcase its complete portfolio of electromobility services, including battery and fuel-cell services, at eCarTec the 4th international fair for electric and hybrid mobility, from 23 to 25 October. The focal themes of the company's presence will be battery safety and charging and refuelling infrastructure. In Hall B 2, Stand 104, visitors can further inform themselves about TÜV SÜD's comprehensive range of training for safe work on vehicles with high-voltage or hydrogen systems. TÜV SÜD sits on the trade fair committee and will present a number of themes at the technical congress held in conjunction with the trade fair, including safety and performance testing of electrical energy storage systems.

TÜV SÜD has broadened its service offering in China by acquiring Sercura Limited, a boutique global inspection and auditing company.Headquartered in Hong Kong, Sercura specializes in pre-shipment inspections (PSIs) and factory audits (social compliance, technical and security) employing about 200 staff in 17 countries.

Robert Kees appointed as new CEO of TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH

Robert Kees has been newly appointed as CEO of the TÜV SÜD subsidiary, and will be sharing executive responsibility with Dr Jens Butenandt. TÜV SÜD BABT extends Marine Equipment Directive scope

TÜV SÜD BABT, the certification body of the TÜV SÜD Group and a Notified Body under the European Marine Equipment Directive (96/98/EC) has extended the scope of the product categories for which it can provide certification under this directive.  The scope extension, authorised by the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), now includes product categories such as AIS-SARTs, Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm Systems (BNWAS) and Navigation Lights under COLREG72.

In addition, TÜV SÜD BABT is now a UK Nominated Body, approved to undertake Type Approval of equipment listed in Annex A.2 of the directive.  Annex A.2 relates to “Equipment for which no detailed test standards exist in international instruments”.  Equipment listed in Annex A.2 of the directive cannot be “Wheel marked” unless it is listed in Annex A.1 and National Type Approval must therefore be sought.
