TÜV SÜD: Euro 6 trucks hold their own in fuel savings

At the IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover, TÜV SÜD and publishing company Huss-Verlag have presented the first results from the long-term truck test series bestof9.eu. An important finding was that Euro 6 vehicles are well able to hold their own in fuel economy – a clear signal to the automotive industry, which has the widely held view that trucks built to the new standard are inefficient. The main conclusions reached in the first TÜV Report for commercial vehicles? Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. The report was published by the Association of German TÜV companies (VdTÜV) in the trade magazine Verkehrsrundschau to mark the IAA Commercial Vehicles exhibition to be held in Hanover from 20 to 27 September 2012. It summarizes the evaluation of over 1.2 million datasets collected by the TÜV companies during vehicle roadworthiness inspections. The sobering conclusion: after only five years, one in five commercial vehicles is shown to have faults impacting on vehicle safety which are serious enough to prevent the vehicle from passing its roadworthiness inspection.
