"Milestone in TÜV SÜD's commitment to electromobility"

Speaking to numerous guests from the worlds of science, industry and politics, TÜV SÜD Member of the Board of Management Horst Schneider officially opened the new Battery Test Centre in Garching on Monday 17 October. Schneider referred to the opening as a "milestone" in the testing and certification company's global commitment to electromobility. The Garching-based test centre, in which TÜV SÜD invested several million euros, provides over 1,000 square metres of floor space for testing the performance and safety of energy storage systems for use in electric vehicles. In addition, the Garching location will serve as a control centre for coordinating global battery testing activities. The testing and certification company has already established testing laboratories in the USA, Canada, Asia Pacific and the UK.

The strategic hub of TÜV SÜD's battery testing in Europe, Asia Pacific and North America; over 1,000 square metres of floor space with well over one hundred test stations for electric storage systems and large-scale battery systems when operated at full capacity; one of the most cutting-edge facilities in Germany for the testing of energy storage systems for e-vehicles; links to Munich's Technical University (TUM) and the institutes of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft: these are the facts and figures of TÜV SÜD's new Battery Test Centre in Garching near Munich, which was built in around eight months and in which TÜV SÜD invested several million euros. The opening marks a milestone in TÜV SÜD's commitment in the field of electromobility. From this new control centre in Garching, we will now realize our goal of testing energy storage systems worldwide with reproducible methods and in accordance with uniform standards.
