What are the requirements for an EMO circuit, e.g. fault-tolerant?

EMO stands for Emergency Mains Off. All applicable requirements out of IEC 60601-1:2005 shall be applied, e.g., but are not limited to clause 9.2.4, clause 4.7 and all electrical requirements (clause 8).

The fault tolerant aspect depends on the kind of risk, which could occur if the EMO fails. That means it depends as well on the kind of medical product concerned. If a fault can absolutely not be tolerated, clause 4.9 for components with high integrity characteristic shall be applied.
