Can you give me more information about the timing of the implementation of 60601-1 3rd Edition ? 

The implementation of the 3rd Ed depends on the availability of Part 2s which relate to this edition. Due to the massive restructuring of the standard and the new clause numbering, it is not feasible to use an ‘old’ Part 2 with the 3rd Ed. Therefore the package of Part 1 and the relevant Part 2 can only be used when an updated Part 2 is available. Work on the updating of the Part 2s is progressing well. If an updated Part 2 is not available by the intended withdrawal date of June 2012, it will be legitimate to continue using the 2nd Ed.

TÜV has a list of the implementation dates of the 3rd Edition on a country by country basis. Not only does this list change frequently but many countries have not made their position clear. As mentioned in my talk, the 2nd Ed will remain valid in the USA until June 2013. We can make the list available to anyone who is interested. Send me your e-mail addresses.
