Does it help to comply with Machinery Directive if my product is ATEX approved?

The ATEX Directive is another of the "New Approach" Directives and will apply to machinery, if that machinery is designed to be used in an explosive atmosphere. There is no need to comply with ATEX unless there is a specific requirement.
