New safety standards for medical electrical equipment

The transitional period for the 3rd edition of the IEC 60601-1:2005 standard will expire on 1 June 2012. From then on the standard on "Medical electrical equipment – part 1: General requirements for basic safety and essential performance" will be fully effective. TÜV SÜD Akademie summarizes the key changes of the new edition and offers a modular qualification scheme, targeting the manufacturers of active medical devices, designers and developers of medical devices, and staff of research and development departments.
