TÜV SÜD to offer ENEC+ mark for lighting

The international leading technical service organisation TÜV SÜD is one of the first Certification Bodies accredited by the European Electrical Products Certification Association (EEPCA) to issue the ENEC+ mark for lighting. ENEC+ verifies initial performance claims and assesses the robustness of product design for luminaries.

TÜV SÜD is a job machine: 1,400 new jobs in 2013 throughout the world

The job machine is still in full swing. Showing strongly in 2013, TÜV SÜD created over 1,400 new jobs throughout the world last year. The technical services provider has thus welcomed over 1,000 new employees on board in almost every year since 2005 – an achievement made possible by sustained strong growth. In 2013, the international company increased its revenue by 6.5 per cent to EUR 1.94 billion (2012: EUR 1.82 billion). Earnings before interest and taxes (adjusted EBIT) in the period covered by this report rose to EUR 171 million (2012: EUR 163 million).

TÜV SÜD Consumer Products E-ssentials: changes to the EU Toys Directive

EU Toys Directive to expand the scope of nickel exemption

 
The European Commission (EC) has notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of its intention to extend the existing exemption for nickel (CAS No 7440-02-0) under the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC (TSD).
Following the advice from its Scientific Committee on Health and Environmental Risks (SCHER), the Commission proposes to extends the current exemption on nickel in stainless steel to include parts of toys that allow the correct electric function of toys. If adopted, this amendment will not preclude the REACH restriction on nickel which also applies to toys.

The amendment is expected to be adopted in mid 2014 and the requirements will enter into force 12 months after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
