TÜV SÜD at eCarTec: Safety for electric vehicles

TÜV SÜD marks a special event in the run-up to eCarTec 2011: the company's new Battery Test Centre at Garching near Munich will officially commence operations on Monday, 17 October, serving the technical service corporation as a coordination centre for its global e-vehicle testing activities. At the specialist trade show itself, held in Munich's Neue Messe exhibition centre from 18 to 20 October, TÜV SÜD will present its full portfolio of services addressing safety in electromobility, providing customers with support throughout from power generation to battery recycling (Hall A5, Stand 410). TÜV SÜD is represented on the trade show advisory committee and will present topics at the congress accompanying the trade show, including its standard for determining e-vehicle range.

"Join the eMobility Revolution" is the motto of eCarTec – and TÜV SÜD will turn words into actions by opening its Battery Test Centre at Garching. The laboratory, with a total area of over 1,000 square metres housing over one hundred testing stations for electrical energy storage systems and large-scale battery systems, will officially commence operations on 17 October in the presence of the Bavarian Environment Minister, Markus Söder. The new premises in Garching, in which TÜV SÜD has invested several million euros, form the strategic hub of TÜV SÜD's battery testing operations in Europe, Asia Pacific and North America. TÜV SÜD's commitment to electromobility centres on testing energy storage systems using globally reproducible test methods and standardized processes. The technical service provider is adopting a global approach from the outset and will also integrate close collaboration with science and research by involving institutions such as the technical university of Munich (Technische Universität München, TUM) and the Fraunhofer Institutes.
