Since spare wheels were crossed off the list of standard equipment for cars, flat tyres have become a more time-consuming and, in many cases, more costly problem. A temporary-use spare unit or tyre repair kit will get you to the nearest garage at best. TÜV SÜD's tip, especially for holiday journeys, is therefore to take along a full-size spare wheel if you have space to spare, are planning a long journey and would prefer to avoid negotiating prices in a foreign language.
